Today travertine is actively used in facing facades of buildings and interior decoration. What is travertine? This is one of the representatives of natural stone, which is in great demand, as it can give the building and the room as a whole a sense of reliability, nobility and will make the space more spectacular. Desert Sunview is an expert in Travertine installation.

Travertine is an intermediate form of stone between limestone and clay, which is formed in mountain caves. Reserves of this material were formed in places of volcanic activity. The properties of travertine have been known for a very long time. It was used in ancient Rome during the construction of the Colosseum. The porous structure of the stone is quickly processed and weighs little. In addition to these advantages, he has others, such as:

ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLINESS

High strength

Durability

Resistance to various temperature changes

The weight of the stone makes it more economical.

The appearance of the stone is beautiful.

Travertine is a decorative material with no extensive range of colors. Travertine slabs have a color scheme from white to light gray or cream.

Easy material processing allows you to create plates of various shapes and sizes. It can be easily sawn and given the desired shape during the installation process.

Despite its porosity, travertine is a water-repellent and water-resistant material.

Travertine can be both natural and artificial. Artificial travertine can be in the form of tiles and the shape of plaster, imitating natural stone.

TRAVERTINE MOUNTING TECHNOLOGY

The process of laying travertine is not particularly complicated but needs to be installed by a professional, and, in its principle, it somewhat resembles the technology of finishing ceramic tiles. There are also some peculiarities in laying travertine that needs to be considered. The installation process is divided into the following stages:

Preparation of walls

Natural stone often has a lot of weight so that the walls will be further strengthened. A reinforcing mesh is laid on it to enhance the wall, then plastered. It is not worth waiting for the plaster to dry completely. You can start finishing the wall with travertine in a day.

Adhesive solution

A unique adhesive solution based on sand, cement, and plasticizers are used for travertine, which adds strength and plasticity to the solution. Cement and sand are mixed in a ratio of 1: 3, after which a strengthening compound is added, which is added taking into account the consistency of the glue. As a result, you should get an average density of glue (approximately the density of sour cream).

Laying

This process is not complicated, especially if you have experience working with ceramic or tile. The alignment of the walls must be carried out, since the tile will not fit properly on an uneven wall and will lead to an irregular pattern or uneven laying. The main thing is to make a smooth horizontal seam. You can use a rigid flat rail to do this, which will serve as support. Laying tiles is carried out on the asset at the level you need.

For fixing large and heavy slabs for facades, mechanical fasteners are used as support. For fasteners, slots are cut in the tiles, into which the plates are fixed mechanically and with a solution—the strength of the structure increases.

Travertine, the technology of mounting on the floor, has no special tricks. Could you put it on a regular cement-sand mortar? To lay travertine slabs on the floor, you need to have a perfectly flat surface. It is not recommended to leave seams during installation, as they will spoil the appearance.
